The Scary Reality Of Joint Degeneration is one of my biggest worries in how our pets will cope with getting older. From aches and pains, to loosing their eye sight , they have a lot to contend with as the years go by.
One of the most common health problems facing dogs as they age, is joint degeneration. 20% of all adult dogs suffer from arthritis to approximately 65% when they are over the age of 7. So if you have noticed your pet is having diffculty walking or moving, you are not alone.
The Scary Reality Of Joint Degeneration which can be arthritis occurs when the cartilage between two bones wears away, causing the joint to rub and scrape together. This makes it extremely painful to walk, jump, and even sit down.
Dogs are very uncomfortable when having to live In such pain!
Cartilage can be worn away due to old age, weight or hereditary problems.
If your furry friend is over 7, or just an active dog in its prime years, looking out for the signs of joint degeneration is of importance for ensuring they live a longer, pain-free life. As a pet parent, it’s our resonsibilty to watch out for any signs of pain. If you notice any of these changes in your dog, it’s time to care of them!
FOR EXAMPLE
– Reluctance to go on walks or play – Excessive licking of particular areas – Loss of appetite – Lethargy and tiredness – Limping after exercise
Joint degeneration is not only painful for your pet, but it can bring them down especially to their health. When your pet is in pain, their activity level decreases, and that means your dog will more than likely gain weight. Which of course adds to the strain, and pain, and everything that comes along with that.
Obesity is a major concern. But, heart disease, diabetes and skin infections can all occur once your dog has joint degeneration. All of that can be very traumatic to your dog. Not to mention the cost.
That’s where Pet Lab can help your dog.
There is a team at PetLab which developed Joint Health Chews, which helps promote flexibility, strength and comfort in your pets joints, and also supports a healthy cartilage to help reduce the pain.
This is my dog Luigi. He is a White Lab/Shepard mix. At age 11, his hind legs are hurting. If I take him for a walk around the block, later in the day, his hind legs are shaking. The Joint Health treat has helped him a lot. But I can only walk him up the block and back.
